To the many cardiovascular conditions linked to sleep apnea, add aortic stenosis. In this German report, more than 70% of those with severe aortic stenosis had sleep apnea. What’s more, those with severe central sleep apnea had higher pulmonary hypertension, another indication of potential stress on the heart.

Sleep apnea and even mere snoring have significant socioeconomic and clinical costs, according to this study from a Danish national registry that takes into account effects on the patient’s employment and on society’s medical care expenditures. Earlier diagnosis and effective treatment would reduce these consequences, say the authors.
