Multiple Sclerosis

TheBasics

An idiopathic demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system.

Two forms:

♦  Remitting-relapsing (70%) has a more favorable prognosis

♦  Chronic progressive, which occurs in 3 forms:

             1.  Primary progressive
             2.  Relapsing progressive
             3.  Secondary progressive (eventually includes many cases of remitting-relapsing MS)

Also, rarely, fulminant MS, which is rapidly fatal, and benign MS, which progresses very slowly.
