Family members of children infected with community associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have a high prevalence of Staph colonization themselves. One-quarter of household contacts of children with MRSA infections had nasal colonization with the infection in this study, suggesting that transmission between family members is common. The authors suggest decolonizing these carriers to prevent recurrent infections.
