Simple Score Identifies Best Atrial Fibrillation Treatments

A simple score comprised of nine common clinical and demographic factors that influence oral anticoagulation can identify atrial fibrillation patients who would do well on adjusted-dose vitamin K antagonists, according to this linear regression model. The authors suggest their clinical prediction scheme can aid in determining which patients will have poor international normalized ratio control, as well as those who require additional interventions to achieve acceptable anticoagulation control.

Cardiometabolic risk factor management combined with a structured weight management program greatly reduces atrial fibrillation symptom burden and leads to more favorable cardiac modeling than general lifestyle advice and risk factor management, according to this single-center, partially blinded, randomized controlled study. The authors suggest ways to help patients manage their own atrial fibrillation better.
